I have new stuff on my plate, however, and I’d love your help. I’m co-teaching a course called Creative Writing and Publishing. My colleague and I have eighteen incredibly enthusiastic and awesome older teens. They’re devoted: we meet for two hours each week outside of the school day (it didn’t fit into the timetable) and I get the impression they’d love more.
We have been blessed (or cursed) with an open slate, an opportunity to create a course, to shape it into whatever we think is best for our group.
Most of our students are fiction writers; the majority of those love science fiction and fantasy.
We have mapped out most of the first term, but it’s fluid, like my brain.
We’d love your input:
Given what you now know about writing and publishing, what would you have taught your teen self?
What do you think should be on a creative writing syllabus for teens?
See you in the comments.
