We’re Baaaack!

What?  Summer’s over?  No. I don’t want to come home yet.

I miss summer already…

Okay, yes, we wordbitches had an extra-long break. But we needed it (and perhaps you did too!). Here’s a little bit of what we’ve done.

Elena worked her butt off to finish and release her fifth book this past month. (Yes, that’s right, FIFTH book!) I’ll let her tell you all about it.

Leanne is madly editing her manuscript so it’s ready to be published in the spring. Woot! I’m sure she’s going to tell you all about that as well.

What was I doing? Hmmm, traveling, playing with my kids, drinking margaritas in the summer sun… Writing? Well, umm, no… there wasn’t really any writing involved with my summer, but I’m making up for it now. My kids are both (yes, both!) in school full time now. (Insert angel chorus of hallelujahs here)

So here’s a bit of what I’m excited about in the next little while…

1. For anyone who writes romance or other genre fiction… keep an eye on Carina Press this week. They have open calls for submissions. I was at a talk given by Angela James, the executive editor of the Digital-First Harlequin Imprint while on an RWA course in Calgary this past week and she’s wonderful. I’ll be taking her ‘Before You Press Send’ editing course over the next 3 weeks. I’ll let you know how it goes.

2. Harper Voyager – the global science fiction and fantasy imprint of HarperCollins – is accepting unagented submissions until October 14th. So polish up those genre manuscripts and send them out!

3. Surrey International Writers’ Conference is fast approaching! I love this conference for the speakers, the people and the general vibe. It is a fantastic conference, but don’t take my word (or Elena’s or Leanne’s), Tyner Gillies posts here about his Surrey Success Story.

So what are you excited about?

I’m very excited about the Surrey conference. Can’t wait to see everyone! (And, y’know…learn stuff.) Also excited about the two new WIPs I’m playing around with. Not sure which one will take over my life first, but having fun with the beginnings of both right now.

    • Trish Loye Elliott says:

New WIPs are such fun! I’ll be starting a new one soon too. Super excited about it. Looking forward to seeing you in Surrey!

I suppose the snow flying today is a stark reminder that we are indeed….back.
There is so many fun and exciting things to look forward to right now when it comes to writing. I’m SO excited about SiWC this year. Like Shari said, it will be great to see everyone, have some fun and…oh, yeah…learn something. :)

I’m excited about back to school, back to writing routine, workshops, contests and getting my writing out there. I spent the summer letting the ideas percolate, now it’s time to get them down on paper.
